Here we are in Week 2 of our Beginner's Drawing Class with Becky Brooks of Kid Creations. This week, the boys began to learn about landscapes. Becky put a large pitcher in the middle of the table, talked with the boys about all the different lines and angles of the pitcher, and then had them draw it. This is what Matthew drew...
Then, Becky started to talk with them about how a landscape gives a 3D impression. Objects that are closer should be larger and objects that are farther away should be smaller. The boys were encouraged to create a landscape and a "storyline" using that pitcher as a focal point. Here was Matthew's final creation...
According to Matthew, the pitcher is actually a space ship that has landed in the middle of a snow covered field (hence the snow man on the left). The tanks are from the Federation and they have come to investigate. A battle has begun. The yellow and red creature on the left is the king of the alien ship.
So, there ya have it. An artist in the making? I don't know. But, I know I have a boy whose confidence is growing and that's worth everything. He is really enjoying the class and we look forward to sharing more with you next week.
