Beverly Lewis' The Shunning is a drama centered in the Amish community.  It was the perfect family movie at my house last Saturday night.  My husband, my 11 year old son, and I gathered in our living room and thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

This Hallmark Channel Original Movie was heartwarming, thought provoking, and beautifully acted.  Even my 11 year old son liked it and wants to watch it again.  You may have caught the movie when it aired on TV in April 2011.  You surely fell in love with it then.  If you did miss it, then you are surely happy you can get it on DVD now.  The following is from the Hallmark Channel website.

Before she succumbs to cancer, the dying wish of Laura Mayfield-Bennett is to be reunited with the daughter she never knew. Unfortunately, that daughter, Katie Lapp, is a member of the Amish order. My family loved The Shunning so much!  It was a perfect family friendly drama all wrapped in the Amish culture, which we find so interesting.  It's an intimate journey of a young woman who sets out to discover her true self, even if it means leaving everything she has ever known and loved behind.  We talked about the movie and the Amish lifestyle for quite some time after it ended.  Although we plan to watch it again, I think my family has agreed to make it part of our church book and DVD lending system.  It's just too good to keep to ourselves!  I may even put it on the suggestion list for our homeschool middle school group movie night.  You can purchase your copy today at Amazon for only $16.99  I don't know how long that awesome price will last so you may want to hop on over right now.
